The leadership of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee dedicated a labour campaign to the memory of the renowned native of the region, Pyotr Masherov, the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

In the year of the 100th anniversary of the outstanding statesman, Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labour Pyotr Masherov, representatives of the Regional Executive Committee, led by its Chairman Nikolai Sherstnev, held a community work day in Rossony. This land, thanks to Masherov, entered the history of the Great Patriotic War as a land of partisan glory – the underground resistance organised by Pyotr Mironovich operated here.

Participants of the labour campaign laid flowers at the stele at the site of the execution of underground fighters and at the Alley of Glory to the Heroes of Rossony, which was opened in February 2018 for Masherov's 100th anniversary.

The main area of effort was the memorial complex in the urban settlement of Rossony. Works were carried out here to improve the territory. The complex was erected in 1965 on the burial site of over 2.5 thousand Soviet soldiers and partisans. The members of the Rossony underground group, executed by the Nazis on September 16, 1942, are also buried here. Pyotr Masherov's mother, Darya Petrovna, was also killed at that time.

The memorial complex is of great importance for the patriotic education of the younger generation. Rallies are held here annually on Victory Day and Belarus Liberation Day from the Nazi invaders. Guests of Rossony visit this place, and relatives and former colleagues of the fallen come here from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
