He stated this today at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held via video conference, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"We need to be prepared for prompt resolution of issues that we postponed in previously comfortable conditions. We should aim for a serious de-dollarization of the Union's economy by fundamentally increasing the formation of prices and settlements for goods and services supplied within the EAEU market in national currencies. This particularly applies to fuel and energy, and raw materials," noted Sergey Rumas.
According to him, the pandemic has demonstrated the importance of pursuing common industrial and agro-industrial policies within the EAEU, as well as joint import substitution programs in sectors crucial for the economy and life support.
"It is evident that the immediate forecasts for the development of national economies are negative. Today, there are no unambiguous assessments regarding the timeline and cost for overcoming the pandemic. It cannot be ruled out that we will simply be forced to become, at least temporarily, a common but self-sufficient market," believes the head of the Belarusian government.
Sergey Rumas is of the opinion that the expert and financial resources of the Eurasian Development Bank and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development should be more actively involved in the joint work.
