Everyone knows that fishing is a great way to spend time actively, but few consider the various dangers that can await an angler. Meanwhile, any body of water, even one that seems familiar, carries certain risks. Therefore, every fishing enthusiast needs constant vigilance and adherence to basic safety measures. Water is quite cold in winter, and if a boat capsizes and a fisherman falls into the water, wet clothing will drag him down, restricting every movement. This can make rescue quite difficult.

To prevent fatalities on water bodies, ОСВОД (The Belarusian Voluntary Society for the Rescue of Persons on Water) reminds everyone of the need to observe safety measures when fishing, especially when fishing from a boat.

Firstly, it is necessary to be aware of the difficult situations a boater may encounter on the water.

Secondly, remember that the main condition for safety when fishing from a boat is the angler's carefulness and caution.

Thirdly, individuals who cannot swim are strictly prohibited from fishing from a boat.

It is difficult to describe all possible dangers that may await a fisherman in a boat, but based on practical experience, some advice can be given to help save oneself and others in an emergency situation.

· Before setting out on the water, check the condition of the boat, oars, and oarlocks.

· If the boat is inflatable, check for air leaks through the valves. To do this, simply wet the valves with water.

· Don't forget your life jacket.

· Do not clutter the bottom of the boat near your seat: arrange tackle and necessary equipment neatly along the sides. Nothing should be placed on your feet in an inflatable boat. They should always be clear of items, tackle, and ropes.

· Do not overload the boat. Ensure that water does not accumulate in it.

· Do not hold the boat broadside to strong wind and waves.

· When fishing while standing, position yourself in the middle of the boat, with your legs spread for stability. Standing up fully in an inflatable boat is strictly forbidden.

· In a rubber boat, do not fish while sitting on the side or on a plank laid across the sides. It is forbidden to sleep in any boat while afloat.

·         Should an accident occur, such as a boat capsizing, do not climb onto it, as this is futile, since any boat is unstable in this position. Without losing composure, you should grab onto the boat and, using your legs, bring it to shallows or to the shore.
