In this regard, it reminds road users of the importance of using retroreflective elements during dark hours.
Pedestrians should walk on pavements, pedestrian or cycle paths, and where these are absent, on the verges.
Pedestrians must cross the carriageway at pedestrian crossings. In the absence of these at intersections, they should follow the line of pavements and verges, ensuring that entering the carriageway is safe. Where designated pedestrian crossings and intersections are not visible, pedestrians should cross the carriageway in a section where it is clearly visible in both directions and by the shortest route.
Crossing the carriageway is particularly dangerous during dark hours or in conditions of poor visibility, as pedestrians can see a vehicle with its headlights on, but drivers may not notice pedestrians. Dark clothing absorbs light and is generally less visible to drivers. To improve visibility on the road during dark hours, pedestrians must make themselves visible using retroreflective elements.
For safety, cyclists should ride on cycle paths, pavements, or pedestrian paths, or along the verge in the same direction as traffic. Cyclists are permitted to ride on the carriageway in single file, no more than 1 metre from its right edge.
When riding a bicycle on the road during dark hours or in conditions of poor visibility, the following must be switched on: a headlight (lamp) emitting white light at the front, and a lamp emitting red light at the rear. Cyclists must use retroreflectors and vests with retroreflective inserts!
Horse-drawn vehicles must be equipped with white retroreflectors at the front and red ones at the rear.
When travelling on the road during dark hours or in conditions of poor visibility, horse-drawn vehicles must have a lamp emitting white light switched on at the front and a lamp emitting red light at the rear.
On roads approaching villages and hamlets, regardless of the season, local residents actively participate in traffic – on foot, by bicycle, or with horse-drawn carts. Therefore, drivers travelling on roads near populated areas must exercise particular caution.
