In order to enhance the discipline of road users, increase the degree of protection, and prevent road traffic accidents involving vulnerable categories of road users, the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Vitebsk region is conducting targeted measures to prevent road traffic accidents involving vulnerable road users from March 3 to March 10, 2020.

The road is a place of increased danger for all categories of road users without exception. However, there are vulnerable categories – pedestrians, cyclists, and freight transport drivers.

Preventive measures are designed to once again draw the attention of the specified category of road users to the need for strict adherence to safe road behavior rules. During the campaign, the State Automobile Inspectorate will organize extensive information and awareness-raising activities among the public, in work collectives, and educational institutions regarding the causes and consequences of road traffic accidents involving the specified category, rules of safe behavior, including at pedestrian crossings, responsibility for committing offenses, as well as the rules and effectiveness of using retroreflective elements and high-visibility vests. Patrol operations are planned with the involvement of all public security police officers to work on unregulated pedestrian crossings and accident-prone sections during "peak hours" and at night. Patrol routes will be revised and brought closer to places of mass pedestrian movement, as well as sections of roads and streets in populated areas most at risk of collisions. The State Automobile Inspectorate officers will focus not only on offending pedestrians but also on drivers who do not comply with the rules for passing pedestrian crossings.

In order to prevent severe consequences of traffic rule violations, citizens have the right to provide video files from dashcams to the State Automobile Inspectorate unit, which have recorded instances of failure to yield right-of-way to

for pedestrians at unregulated pedestrian crossings.
