From 1 November to 31 March, the catching of European catfish is prohibited.

Due to the fact that the catfish is very sensitive to cold weather, it goes into hibernation earlier than other fish species. At the same time, the catfish becomes practically immobile, which makes it easy prey in wintering pits. Therefore, the Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate reminds that catching this species of fish during the closed season will cost violators large sums: 12 base units (324 rubles) for each individual European catfish.
