The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora reminds that from November 15 to December 20, a ban on catching European cisco will be introduced in the fishing grounds of Belarus, which is established due to its spawning. The ban was introduced by the Resolution of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection dated December 2, 2015 No. 42, after the exclusion of cisco from the list of protected species.

Cisco is the smallest representative of the whitefish species, its maximum length is no more than 25 cm, and it looks like herring. It inhabits the waters of the Vitebsk region and some lakes in the north of the Minsk region. The name of one of them is consonant with the Belarusian name for cisco – "syalyava".

From 1981 to 1993 and from 2004 to June 2014, the species was included in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus and prohibited for catch. Now catching cisco is allowed, except
