In January 2022, 23 road traffic accidents with casualties were registered in the Vitebsk region, resulting in 6 fatalities and 32 injuries of varying severity. Of the total number of accidents, 5 were caused by violations of pedestrian crossing rules, 2 by non-compliance with intersection traffic rules, and 2 by driving vehicles without a license.
4 accidents were caused by pedestrians, resulting in 2 fatalities and 2 injuries. Additionally, one accident involving a cyclist was registered, which resulted in the cyclist's death.
To enhance the effectiveness of accident prevention measures involving pedestrians, prevent the escalation of adverse traffic conditions, and foster mutual courtesy among road users, a comprehensive set of preventive measures aimed at accident prevention will be conducted in the Vitebsk region from February 17 to 22, 2022.
The preventive measures are intended to once again draw the attention of road users to the necessity of strictly adhering to safe road behaviour rules.
