Incidents involving drivers under the influence are characterised by a high degree of severity of consequences and also cause significant public outcry.
Alcoholic intoxication is considered to be the presence of absolute ethyl alcohol in the blood or exhaled air at a concentration of 0.3 per mille or more, or the presence of absolute ethyl alcohol vapours at a concentration of 150 or more micrograms per litre of exhaled air.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is subject to the same penalties as:
- driving a vehicle under the influence of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogues, toxic or other stupefying substances.
- transferring control of a vehicle to a person who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- refusing to undergo testing (examination) to determine the state of alcoholic intoxication or a state caused by drugs.
The fine is set based on the basic unit and ranges from 50 to 100 basic units. In addition to the fine, deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle is provided, and for a person who does not have the right to drive, deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a period of 3 years.
Also subject to punishment is the consumption by a driver of alcoholic, low-alcohol beverages or beer, drugs, after a signal to stop the vehicle has been given by an internal affairs officer or after a road traffic accident of which they are a party, prior to undergoing testing (examination) to determine the state of alcohol intoxication.

To ensure the effectiveness of road traffic safety measures, a set of activities to prevent road traffic accidents involving drunk drivers will be carried out from May 21 to May 25, 2020.
