While cars are operated throughout the year in most cases, motorised two-wheelers are most frequently seen on the roads in spring and summer. According to an analysis of the operational situation in road traffic, this is a cause for the exacerbation of the problem of injuries to road users due to the fault of drivers of two-wheeled motor vehicles.

In January-March 2021, 9 road traffic accidents (in 2020 – 16) were caused by drivers of motorised two-wheelers, resulting in 10 injuries (2020 – 18). However, over just two weekend days (10-11 April 2021), 2 people died in road traffic accidents involving motorcyclists on the country's roads. Such incidents occurred in Minsk and the Gomel region.

The main causes of road traffic accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles include driving without a licence and riding skills, and operating a faulty vehicle that has not passed technical inspection. Every third road traffic accident is committed by motorcyclists under the influence of alcohol. According to accident analysis data, road traffic accidents are committed, and unfortunately, young people aged 16 to 25 often die in them, carelessly assuming that bad things can happen to anyone but them. Due to their youth and lack of experience, many disregard basic road safety rules.

Each new season sees new riders joining the ranks of motorcyclists. Naturally, their motorcycle riding skills are limited, which often leads to road traffic accidents.

Concurrently, the problem of insufficient discipline among motorcyclists remains relevant. Against the backdrop of an increasing number of registered motorised two-wheelers in the republic, this often becomes a contributing factor to road traffic accidents.

The State Automobile Inspectorate once again appeals to all adults, including parents: if you witness a teenager preparing to ride a motorcycle or moped in violation of safety rules, prevent this trip! Only through joint efforts can we prevent tragedies and stop young, healthy, vigorous, and energetic people from being lost from life!

For driving without a license, a driver faces a fine of 5 to 20 base units, and for a repeated offense within a year – from 20 to 50 base units or administrative arrest for up to 15 days. A repeated offense within a year will lead to increased liability – from 2 to 5 base units.

In order to increase the effectiveness of the internal affairs bodies in preventing road traffic accidents involving motor vehicles, promoting road safety in the operation of motorcycles and mopeds, fostering mutual respect among road users, and suppressing hooligan actions by motorcyclists, a republican preventive campaign "Motor Movement - Without Violations!" is being held from April 23 to April 30, 2021.
