Most often, child pedestrians are involved in accidents, and often through their own fault. Children are active and restless; they may not notice a car or get confused in an extreme situation. Therefore, State Traffic Inspectorate officers, teachers, and representatives of public organizations visit kindergartens and schools, explaining to children how to behave correctly on the road.
Collisions with children also frequently occur due to drivers' fault, often at pedestrian crossings.
Upon seeing a child approaching a crossing, drivers must smoothly reduce speed and be prepared to brake at any moment. Do not "rush" children with horns or flashing headlights; a child may get confused.
We remind you that children must also be transported correctly: up to 5 years old, in a child restraint system; older children, on booster seats and other devices that allow the child to be secured with a seat belt. Children can be transported without restraint systems if they are 12 years old or taller than 150 cm, as well as in taxis. For violating the rules of child transportation, according to Article 18.14, Part 5 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, a fine of up to 4 base units is imposed, and committing such an offense again within a year incurs a fine of up to 8 base units.
Until the age of 14, children can ride bicycles only in safe areas. Do not neglect safety equipment such as helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads; they can protect against injuries.
But the most important thing is to be a good example for your children. When crossing the road, explain to your child how to do it correctly, why it is dangerous to run onto the roadway; when you see someone violating the Traffic Regulations, explain that such behavior is wrong.
