Many residents of our district have already noticed the bright, colourful banners placed along Chuykov Street, at the entrance to the town from the Minsk-Vitebsk highway, and along the entire length of the street. The bright photos feature the faces of our fellow countrymen: decorated athletes, members of creative groups, young Olympiad winners, activists from I. Yerashov Gymnasium, Secondary School No. 3… Looking at these photos, we are proud of the achievements of our fellow countrymen who, for many years, have brought fame to their native Lepel not only at the regional and national levels but also far beyond.
Our conversation with Viktor Azaryonok, Deputy Chairman of the Lepel District Executive Committee, will focus on how the idea of creating the banners came about, the subsequent work to implement it, and the improvement of the town and district.
In accordance with the instructions of Boris Efremov, Chairman of the District Executive Committee, a town improvement project was developed. To make the town's streets look bright and recognisable, it was decided to install banners along their roadways. However, we planned to feature people who live among us on these banners. Lepel region is proud of the names of young erudites, winners of creative competitions, talented performers, and outstanding athletes. In addition, the district has many work collectives with high production indicators. We have wonderful large families who have become role models in raising children.
It is impossible to pass by the banner near the bus station, featuring a photo of the young traffic inspectors team from Secondary School No. 3 with their curator, Senior State Traffic Inspector of the Traffic Police Department of the Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs, Valery Leshchenko. For several years now, the children have been winning the district rally of young traffic inspectors and taking prize-winning places at the regional level. On the other side, you can see a photo of the young rescuer-firefighters team from I. Yerashov Gymnasium. They won regional and oblast competitions for young rescuers-firefighters and have successfully participated for several years in the International Rally of Young Rescuers-Firefighters held in Gomel. The team's training is overseen by Yegor Zinov, Inspector of Supervision and Prevention of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, and in the photo with the children is Aleksandr Sadovsky, Inspector of Propaganda and Prevention of the District Department for Emergency Situations.
Several banners have been installed at the entrance to Lepel, near the Belneftekhim concern's petrol station. One of them features a photo of Stepan Popov, a Master of Sport in Judo, Honoured Master of Sport in Sambo, multiple winner of European and World Sambo Championships, and winner of the I European Games Sambo competition in Baku, who was awarded the prestigious Fair Play prize for his sportsmanship towards his opponents. On the other side of the banner is a photo of Elizaveta Anoshko from Lepel, a multiple prize-winner and champion of the Republic of Belarus Youth Championships and Cup, and a two-time silver medallist of the 2016 European Canoe Sprint Championships. In the same area, a banner has been erected featuring the Honoured Amateur Folklore Ensemble "Sunichki". The young artists have brought fame to the Lepel region not only throughout the republic but also abroad, captivating the hearts of numerous fans of Belarusian folklore with their vibrant performances. The reverse side of the banner displays a photo of the Honoured Amateur Ensemble of the Republic of Belarus "Skarbonka". The unique creations of these artisans amaze art connoisseurs from all over the republic, and can also be seen at exhibitions held during city festivals.
Continuing along Chuykov Street, one cannot fail to notice the colourful banner of the institution "Editorial Office of the District Newspaper 'Lepelski Krai'". The banner impresses with its original design, successfully showcasing the work of the editorial office's creative and technical staff.
The banner prepared by the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the District Executive Committee has an original appearance. It is located at the intersection of Chuykov Street and Borisovsky Trakt. One side features a call for the creation of a barrier-free environment, while the other promotes a healthy lifestyle, campaigning against the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. "Good habits are instilled from childhood" – this inscription on the banner is impossible to overlook.
Behind these bright, high-quality photos are considerable financial costs and the meticulous work of many people. Special words of gratitude are due to Vera Zakrevskaya, Director of the State Enterprise "DRDC "Zhemchuzhina"", who for many years headed the district organization of the Public Association "Belaya Rus". Vera Ivanovna allocated funds for the production of a banner featuring photos of young winners of subject Olympiads, creative competitions, etc. This banner is installed in the area of the workshops of the agricultural technical college. Sincere words of gratitude for the banner's production are extended to the management of the editorial office of the district newspaper "Lepelsky Krai". Great appreciation goes to Yevgeny Yasko, Head of the State Enterprise "Design and Architectural Bureau of Lepel and the District", and to Tatiana Buinitskaya, Dmitry Shunevich, and others from the State Enterprise "Borovka" for their work on installing the banners.
At the end of July, a working meeting of the district executive committee was held, at which a protocol of instructions for the heads of organizations and enterprises was developed. By City Day in Lepel, it is planned to install a series of banners dedicated to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, family, and cultural values. Lepel residents will see a banner with a photo of the large Petrishche family, which is being worked on by the management of the State Healthcare Institution "Lepel Central Regional Hospital". A banner from the gymnasium named after I. Yerashov, featuring graduate Alina Klavovich, will not leave anyone indifferent. Alina has repeatedly participated in regional Olympiads and was a participant in the republican Olympiad in English. This year, she scored one hundred points in English when entering the Minsk State Linguistic University and became its student. The Borovka Secondary School is producing a banner with a photo of graduate Ivan Murzin, who was a winner of district Olympiads in History and Social Studies, a prize-winner of the regional Olympiad, and a participant in the republican Olympiads in History. He successfully entered the Faculty of Law at Belarusian State University, scoring one hundred points in the History of Belarus. A three-sided banner will be installed near the building of Secondary School No. 3, displaying photos of the school's best students.
Banners from the State Institution "Lepel District Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology", dedicated to the prevention of a healthy lifestyle, the Lepel Agricultural Technical College, and others will also attract the attention of Lepel residents.
