Since the beginning of the year, 2 cyclists have died and 18 more have been injured in 20 road traffic accidents on the territory of the Vitebsk region.

On June 30, around 6 PM in Polotsk, a 49-year-old driver of a Toyota collided with a 13-year-old cyclist. The boy was crossing the roadway outside of a pedestrian crossing.

In Miory District, during the day on July 13, a 72-year-old cyclist, while riding on a secondary road, failed to yield to a 21-year-old driver of a Toyota who was travelling on the main road. The cyclist sustained injuries.
On July 28, around 10 PM, near house No. 112 on Engels Street in Orsha, a cyclist was injured. A 35-year-old driver of a Renault collided with a 31-year-old young man who was cycling in the same direction.
 
How to ride a bicycle correctly to avoid a fine and becoming a victim of a road traffic accident!
 
If there is no cycle path, a cyclist must ride on the pavement or pedestrian path, without obstructing pedestrians. If there is no cycle path, pavement, or pedestrian zone nearby, one must ride on the roadside or the edge of the roadway. HOWEVER! One can ride no further than one metre from the right edge of the roadway. Riding further than one metre is only permitted for overtaking an obstacle and in cases where left turns or U-turns are allowed.
 
In pedestrian and residential zones, on pavements, and on cycle or pedestrian paths, one can ride at any age. However, riding on the road unaccompanied by an adult is only permitted from the age of 14.
 
Riding a bicycle across a pedestrian crossing is prohibited. A cyclist must stop, dismount, and push their bicycle alongside them. Exception: "green cycle crossings" – areas designated by special green markings.
 
During darkness, and in conditions of poor visibility, such as fog, according to the rules, a bicycle must have a white light illuminated at the front and a red light at the rear. The cyclist must wear a reflective vest.
 
Cyclist, remember! The use of technically faulty bicycles and those equipped in violation of the requirements of technical regulatory legal acts is prohibited.
For failure to comply with the specified requirements, as well as for traffic violations that create a hazardous situation, cyclists may be held administratively liable in accordance with Article 18.20 of the Code of Administrative Offences. The fine amount is stipulated inup to 20 base units
