Since the beginning of the current year, 5 road traffic accidents involving cyclists have been registered in the Vitebsk region, in which 4 people died and 1 was injured.

To prevent such incidents, tomorrow, May 11, the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs will conduct a set of preventive measures "Be Safe!", aimed at preventing road traffic accidents involving cyclists and persons using personal mobility devices.

During this period, extensive information and explanatory work will be carried out in the mass media and among the public on the problem of injuries to pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, as well as the causes and conditions of road traffic accidents involving them. Road patrol service officers will work on sections of highways and streets in populated areas most at risk of collisions with pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. At the same time, increased attention from traffic police officers will be paid to suppressing violations of rules by both drivers and vulnerable road users, including the use of retroreflective elements. Neglecting basic safety rules, unexpected appearance on the road, pedestrians' refusal to use retroreflective elements in the dark, and being on the roadway while intoxicated lead to tragic consequences. Most often, intoxicated individuals are unable to control their actions. They fall, crawl, sit, or fall asleep directly on the roadway.
