At the entrance, visitors can familiarise themselves with the map of "Sacred and Historical Sites of the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve". This map displays objects and locations from legends and tales passed down through generations by the inhabitants of the reserve's villages. The map also shows historical and cultural monuments that have acquired sacred significance over time and have become subjects for the emergence of new myths. They also testify to the fact that people settled in this land long ago and left behind a rich material and spiritual heritage. Thanks to the legends and tales, the memory of what happened in these places during various historical epochs – from time immemorial to the present day – lives on.
It was pleasant to see here something to which I am directly related. For some, it is just a map with beautiful conventional symbols. But for me, behind each symbol lies a completely different content – dozens of meetings with storytellers in the reserve's villages, who enthusiastically told about hidden treasures and much more. Local history explorations and archaeological surveys, without which many myths and objects of material culture would have been lost forever in time and space.
Tour guide Viktor Rovdo says that among the visitors to the reserve, there are many people interested in history. Such guests are offered a range of fascinating and interesting routes, where they will not only see sacred objects but also hear many interesting legends and tales. One of them is about a Dragon that lived somewhere in the depths of the Domzheritskoye swamp. It used to be a large and beautiful lake. Today, the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve is a place where, alongside natural heritage, efforts are made to preserve all the best that has been inherited from our ancestors. The Centre for Mythology has become precisely such a treasury.
