On January 12, Minsk /BELTA correspondent/. Today, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences related to the amounts of fines for traffic violations come into force. This was reported to the correspondent by the Department of Road Traffic Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. The amounts of a number of financial penalties are increasing. The traffic police explained that this eliminates the disproportionate nature of penalties for single and repeated violations. In particular, for a repeated violation within a year of stopping or parking rules, the fine is now two basic units (one basic unit is currently equal to Br35 thousand). In the case of a truck with a technically permissible total mass of more than 3.5 tons, such a fine is ten basic units. If a driver ignores the seat belt for the first time in a year, the fine ranges from two to five basic units. In addition, drivers who systematically use mobile phones (without a hands-free device) while driving, while behind the wheel, will pay from two to eight basic units for each such violation. -0-
