The event is organised precisely on the days when not only young Belarusians but also children from the Kaluga and Bryansk regions of Russia are undergoing rehabilitation at the sanatorium.

The celebration is attended by Valery Malashko, Chairman of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Health, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy, Chairman of the Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly on Health; Vyacheslav Durnov, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee; Mikhail Kiselevich, Chairman of the Lepel District Executive Committee; Natalia Burak, consultant of the Permanent Committee of the Union State representative office in Minsk, and other distinguished guests.

The festive events were launched at the solemn assembly "Unity of Our States".

Welcoming the guests, Mikhail Kiselevich, Chairman of the Lepel District Executive Committee, noted that the hospitable Lepel land has been welcoming friends from Russian regions for many years. And every year, great attention is paid to the preparation of events within the framework of the Union State Day.

Mikhail Kiselevich wished the children of the fraternal countries to spend these days beneficially, and also to establish good neighbourly relations so that the friendship would last for many years.

Since 2004, the children's rehabilitation and health resort centre "Zhemchuzhina" has been one of the permanent implementers of the Union State event "Organisation of treatment and health improvement for children from the regions of Belarus and Russia most affected by the Chernobyl NPP disaster, other natural and man-made disasters".

These days, 60 children from Russia and 30 from Belarus are undergoing rehabilitation at the health resort under the Union State vouchers.

Within the framework of the Union State Day at the Children's Rehabilitation and Health Resort Centre "Zhemchuzhina", in addition to the solemn assembly "Unity of Our States", the planting of an Alley of Memory and Friendship will take place in honour of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the strengthening of friendly ties between the children of the Union State.

Continuing the theme of the heroic past of the peoples of Belarus and Russia during the Great Patriotic War, a thematic area was presented for the guests.

Dividing the location into small zones, cultural workers told how the district newspaper was published in those terrible years, how soldiers wrote letters to their families, how daily life and leisure were organised.

And, of course, there were songs. The legendary "Katyusha" reminded us of the strength of spirit of our peoples.

The meeting continued with a dialogue platform, during which the main theme was the strengthening of allied relations between the two countries.

One of the most touching moments was participation in the "Letter to the Future" campaign. Children and guests wrote letters to the future generation and placed them in a memory capsule.

The capsule is planned to be opened on September 4, 2045.

Strong countries – a strong union!
