29 April, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. Sennensky District of Vitebsk Region has been included in the list of regions where a new project of the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS) "Healthy Lifestyle: Training and Promotion" will be piloted. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the BRCS.

The project is aimed at fostering a responsible attitude of the population towards their health. It will be implemented with the financial support of the Swiss Red Cross.

"There is already experience of similar work - rural health committees have been operating in Kyrgyzstan for 12 years. There, volunteers assist healthcare facilities in disseminating information on the prevention of various diseases, monitor the incidence of diseases, and identify factors that affect people's health in each specific locality," specialists said.

The work carried out by the Swiss Red Cross in Kyrgyzstan has proven its effectiveness. Participants of rural health committees have become involved in blood pressure measurement. Volunteers have examined about 400,000 people in Kyrgyzstan, and many of them were found to have elevated blood pressure for the first time.

Currently, representatives of the Swiss Red Cross are studying the possibility of transferring the Kyrgyz experience to Belarus. They have already begun developing a funding application. The project implementation will start in 2014.-0-
