Seven water supply and sewerage facilities are planned to be commissioned in the Vitebsk region by the end of the year, Valentina Masko, chief engineer of UP "Vitebskobvodokanal", told a BELTA correspondent. In particular, in the fourth quarter, it is planned to commission the first start-up complex of the "Luchesa" water intake reconstruction project in Vitebsk, an iron removal station in the settlement of Borovka, Lepel district, the town of Disna and the agro-town of Uzmeny, Miory district, to complete the reconstruction of the water intake with the construction of an iron removal station in the settlement of Osintorf, Dubrovno district, and the urban-type settlement of Богушевск, Senno district, as well as the first start-up complex of the reconstructed treatment facilities in Ushachi. Among the projects implemented since the beginning of the year are the construction of a water intake in the settlement of Khimy, Orsha district, and the reconstruction of the water supply network in the settlement of Borovukha-3 (Polotsk district). In total, from January to August, over Br5 billion was utilized for the construction and reconstruction of water supply and sewerage facilities in the region. The investment volume for these purposes for the current year is Br15 billion. The main part of the funds is planned to be utilized in the last quarter. For drinking water purposes, the region uses almost 2.8 thousand underground sources, 1034 communal and 1.4 thousand departmental water pipelines, including 535 rural and 5.7 thousand public shaft wells, the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health added. There are 135 iron removal stations for drinking water treatment, which ensure normative iron removal of drinking water. The safety indicators of drinking water used by the population remain stable. As part of measures to improve the quality of drinking water in the region, 40 drinking water pipelines are being built and reconstructed, and 11 iron removal stations are also under construction. 138 centralized drinking water supply sources and 248 public wells have been brought into compliance with sanitary norms and rules for sanitary protection zones. -0-
