Senator: Lukashenko and Putin's meeting set significant accents in assessing the situation around the Union State

The negotiations between the Presidents of Belarus and Russia, Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, have set significant accents in assessing the military situation around the Union State. This was stated by Felix Yashkov, a member of the Council of the Republic, as reported to BELTA by the press service of the upper house of parliament.

"Moreover, this is, without exaggeration, a strategic milestone in the series of events occurring in foreign policy. And it is no coincidence that the meeting place was chosen as the maritime outpost of the Union State in the western direction – an impregnable hero-city and defender-city with a glorious past," said Felix Yashkov.

It is noteworthy that, despite the growing threats from NATO, the overall tone of the negotiations was calm and confident, the senator noted. "This confirms that fraternal peoples are under reliable protection, the heads of state are in control of the situation. This means that we can confidently make plans for further strengthening and developing integration. Therefore, it is logical that economic issues have become one of the leading areas of negotiations, creating a solid foundation for improving the well-being of people and the power of our states," he emphasized. "Tasks for ensuring common security are becoming larger and more serious – now this also includes preventing the redistribution of the southern territories of neighboring countries. The negotiations clearly showed: the Union State is acquiring new meanings and significance, clearly demonstrating itself as a powerful center of strength in the turbulent world landscape."

"In his opening address, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko touched upon numerous topics, including the most pressing issues of both Belarusian-Russian relations and the global agenda, among them the special military operation in Ukraine. The heads of state discussed NATO's military activity in Poland and the tense socio-political situation in Western Ukraine. The meeting demonstrated the similarity of opinions between the Belarusian and Russian leaders regarding the events unfolding in the neighbouring country, their identical strategic and tactical vision of the situation," added member of the Council of the Republic Alexey Neverov. "I consider the topic of economic development of Belarus and Russia to be no less important. In this responsible, one might say, pivotal period in our shared history, we need to further strengthen cooperation and consolidate economic and cultural ties. For now, we can state the fact that despite all external challenges, the economies of both countries are operating stably, with a confident positive trend. We see how many joint projects are being successfully implemented and how trade turnover is growing year by year. But most importantly, we have made significant progress in the construction of the Union State, and the necessary agreements have been reached in almost all areas of integration."
