In the Vitebsk region, the sowing of grain and leguminous crops is planned to be completed by April 25, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
As of April 17, 64.4% of the areas, or 131.5 thousand hectares, have been sown in the region, taking into account the increased commitments undertaken by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. The daily growth rate is 4-5%.
It is expected that the agricultural workers of Orsha and Dubrovno districts will be the first to cope within the next few days, where 93.2% (11.2 thousand hectares) and 93.9% (9.2 thousand hectares) have already been sown, respectively. Verkhnedvinsk (87.7% of the areas, or 8.6 thousand hectares), Miory (83.3%, or 6.3 thousand hectares), Tolochin, and other districts have gained momentum. Farmers in Shumilino, Postavy, and Gorodok districts are only approaching the 50 percent mark, which is largely due to soil conditions.
The sowing of cruciferous crops continues in the region. Rapeseed has been sown on an area of 2.5 thousand hectares, or 28.1% of the plan. In parallel, individual farms in the region will begin sowing corn by the end of the month. This year, 100 thousand hectares have been allocated for this crop in the Vitebsk region.
