20 September, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Six districts of the Vitebsk region have harvested more than half of their potato fields, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
More than 50% of potato fields have been harvested by farmers in Postavy (67%, 2.4 thousand tons dug), Sharkovshchina (66.5% respectively, 1.6 thousand tons), Polotsk (62.3%, 6.7 thousand tons), Lepel (56.8%, 2.8 thousand tons), Miory (56%, 2.2 thousand tons), and Tolochin (53.7%, 16.4 thousand tons) districts. The latter region also shows the highest yield among all districts of the region – 493.1 centners per hectare. More than 200 centners per hectare are obtained in Vitebsk, Gorodok, Polotsk, and Shumilino districts. The average yield for the region is 213.4 centners per hectare.
As of 20 September, a total of 66.9 thousand tons of potatoes have been dug in the Vitebsk region, with 3.1 thousand hectares harvested, which constitutes 47% of all areas. Harvesting is proceeding at a good pace, so in the next day or two, most districts will surpass the 50% mark, specialists are confident.
The harvesting of vegetables has also actively begun. Already, 37.9 hectares of cabbage (905.3 tons dug), 101.2 hectares of beetroot (2.3 thousand tons respectively), 55.9 hectares of carrots (1.3 thousand tons), and 40 hectares of onions (948 tons) have been harvested. -0-
