The Shumilino District Department of the Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the death of a one-and-a-half-month-old infant in the village of Nikitikha, the official representative of the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk Region, Inna Gorbacheva, told a BELTA correspondent.
Investigators are currently working at the scene of the incident. Forensic medical, fire-technical, and chemical examinations have already been ordered. The causes of the fire, which resulted in the infant's death in a cot, will most likely be established only after the examinations are completed.
Today at 8:24 AM, the Shumilino District Department for Emergency Situations received a report of an incident in an apartment in the village of Nikitikha. It turned out that the daughter had arrived with her 1.5-month-old child to visit her mother. At the time of the fire, the apartment owner and her son were at work. The infant's mother, her sister, and children were in the house. When the woman entered the room, she discovered the infant on fire in the cot. Only a part of the cot was damaged by the fire. The sister ran in at the cries and doused the flames with water. It was no longer possible to save the child's life. -0-
