On July 27, Minsk /BELTA/. Syria is a key partner for Belarus in the Middle East. This was stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Vladimir Andreichenko, on July 26 at a meeting with the President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, according to a BELTA correspondent. The Speaker emphasized that much has been done by both countries to develop relations in various spheres, but not all opportunities have been exhausted yet. According to him, inter-parliamentary cooperation needs to be developed more actively. Belarus and Syria have already established an inter-parliamentary commission for cooperation. Parliamentarians intend to monitor the implementation of joint projects in the field of interregional cooperation, mutual investments, and the social sphere. As an example, Vladimir Andreichenko cited joint projects for bottling olive oil in Belarus and the production of upholstery fabrics. A project on experience exchange between doctors of the two countries will also be implemented: Syrian specialists in cardiology will cooperate with employees of the cardiology center of the 4th City Clinical Hospital in Minsk. The Chairman of the House of Representatives stressed that Belarus attaches great importance to the development of political, trade, economic, and cultural relations with Syria. "The fact that today's meeting took place eloquently testifies that Syria also attaches great importance to the development of parliamentary ties with Belarus," he added. The President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, in turn, expressed interest in implementing joint projects in Belarus and highly praised the potential of our country, especially in the fields of economy and science. He emphasized that there is "constant mutual understanding between the two states in the political sphere," and good relations have been established between the top leadership and the speakers of the parliaments. At the same time, in his opinion, far from all ordinary citizens, especially representatives of the younger generation, in Syria and Belarus are well aware of each other's lives. Therefore, it makes sense to develop inter-parliamentary ties and organize exchanges of parliamentary delegations more often, believes the President of Syria. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Anatoly Rubinov.
