On September 2, Glubokoe /Tatsiana Pastushenka - BELTA/. A square of famous natives of Glubokoe was opened today during the celebration of the Day of Belarusian Written Language, a BELTA correspondent reports.
As noted at the opening ceremony by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, it is no coincidence that the Vitebsk region is hosting the Day of Written Language for the fifth time, and this year the celebration is held in the ancient city of Glubokoe, which will celebrate its 600th anniversary in 2014. According to Alexander Kosinets, the opening of the square of famous fellow countrymen from Glubokoe testifies to the fact that Belarusians remember their history and value the contribution of great people to the development of the country.
The creation of eight bronze busts and two memorial plaques, which were installed in Glubokoe for the Day of Written Language, was financed by the Ministry of Culture of Belarus.
This is the first time such a number of monuments to famous Belarusian figures have been installed simultaneously on the territory of Belarus. The works of monumental art immortalized names known throughout the world: Iosif Korsak (a patron of the arts, with whose funds the Carmelite Church, the Trinity Church, etc. were built in Glubokoe); Yuzef Drozdovich (writer, artist, folklorist, archaeologist); Ignacy Bujnicki (founder of the national theatre); Ales Dubrovič (poet, participant in the liberation movement in Western Belarus); Pyotr Kozlov (Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant General); Pavel Sukhoi (twice Hero of Socialist Labour, general designer of aviation equipment); Vaclau Lastouski (writer, historian, first director of the Belarusian State Museum); Eliezer Ben-Yehuda (creator of the state language of Hebrew of the Republic of Israel).
Memorial plaques in bronze were created for the writer Leontiy Rakovskiy and the Belarusian public figure of the 1920s-1930s, architect Klawdziusz Duzh-Duszewski.
The authors of the works of monumental art were famous Belarusian sculptors: Alexander Gvozdikov, Lev and Sergey Gumilevsky, Ivan Kazak, Valery Moguchiy, Ivan Misko, Konstantin Selikhanov, Azat Torosyan, Valerian Yanushkevich.-0-
