14 December, Vitebsk /BELTA correspondent/. The investigation suspects the mother of setting fire to a one-and-a-half-month-old infant in the Shumilino district, the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Belarus for the Vitebsk region, Inna Gorbacheva, told a BELTA correspondent. The Shumilino District Department of the Investigative Committee of Belarus has initiated a criminal case under subparagraph 2.5 of part 2 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (premeditated murder of a minor, committed by an generally dangerous method). As previously reported, on the morning of 13 December, a fire broke out in an apartment in the village of Nikitikha, Shumilino district, as a result of which a baby's cot was damaged by fire. The body of an infant born in 2012 was found at the scene of the fire with thermal burns. As a result of the initial investigative actions, as well as operational-search measures, the investigation has grounds to believe that the fire was set by the deceased's mother, who was on childcare leave. She has currently been detained. Necessary investigative actions are being carried out in the criminal case, a number of examinations have been appointed, and witnesses have been questioned. During the investigation, the motives for the crime will be established, and a forensic psychiatric examination will be conducted, which will allow a conclusion to be drawn about the mental health of the suspect.-0-
