The search for fallen soldiers must be prepared from school age!

Sergey Kornev, Head of the Department for Perpetuating the Memory of the Defenders of the Fatherland and Victims of Wars of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, was today a speaker at an open lesson with students of Slobodskaya Secondary School.

The main goal of his visit was to communicate with the members of the search club "Slobodskie Sledopyty" (Sloboda Trailblazers).

It is worth reminding that for over 25 years, members of the search club of Slobodskaya Secondary School named after N.M. Pshyonko have been uncovering unknown pages of the military history of the Lepel region.

The children have discovered more than ten unrecorded military burials from the Great Patriotic War period and have brought back dozens of names of soldiers and partisans from oblivion. The results of the search work have been summarised in a number of books written by the club's leader, history teacher Valery Tukhto.

— "Search is a people's and international endeavour. Besides the military, representatives of local executive and administrative bodies, state and public organisations, including search associations, are also involved in this work. It is gratifying that children are also involved in this noble cause. A prime example is the 'Slobodskie Sledopyty'," noted Sergey Kornev.

The speaker also noted that today we are holding the country together, and tomorrow young people will replace us, so through such meetings, we tell them about and discuss the military feats and labour achievements of our ancestors.

– "Such dialogue platforms are also important in light of recent events in the nearby border areas. Those who today have become forgetful Thomases, have forgotten their roots and connections, today have neither stability nor development, and unfortunately, are rapidly moving towards self-destruction. Our country, however, is stable and prosperous today. This must be shown to our youth so that they can see that our efforts are not in vain and that our country's authority is sufficiently high," he stated.

The guest also visited the school museum, where each exhibit is a reminder of the important, laborious, and invaluable work of the young searchers and their teachers. The speaker was impressed by what he saw.

Elena Serebro, Chief Specialist of the Department of Ideological Work and Youth Affairs of the Lepel District Executive Committee, thanked the guest for his visit and expressed confidence that such meetings will become regular, and the interaction between our young searchers and the military personnel will become even closer.
