In recent training sessions for reservists, among those called up from the Vitebsk region, 12 individuals from Lepel also participated. Privates, sergeants, officers – all together bore the burden of military service, lived in barracks, and afterwards in tents at the training ground near Osipovichi. The 427th Rocket Artillery Regiment more than doubled in size during the training period.

The deployment to the Osipovichi training ground was a distinct chapter of the training. The task was to remove several units of equipment from conservation, prepare them for independent movement, make the journey to the training ground, conduct live firing exercises, and return to the unit under their own power.
It might seem straightforward. However, this is only for those who do not understand the full significance of terms like "conservation" and "long-term storage," and "independent movement." Conservation and long-term storage are special modes of equipment storage where it can remain stationary for years without movement or engine start. Anyone who has tried to start a vehicle that has been idle for a year or two knows all the "joys" of a mechanic. The ZIL-135LM is a formidable multi-ton combat vehicle carrying the "Uragan" multiple rocket launcher. However, the vast majority of them are from the Soviet era, making their operation a true art.

Several individuals had previously served in the 427th Regiment, including reserve Major Nikolai Bakan. At one time, he completed his service as a battery commander, and now he has returned to the same role. His subordinates often called him "Batya-kombat" (roughly, "Father-Battalion Commander").

Finally, the firing exercises were completed, results were summarised, the equipment was returned to the park, and placed back into long-term storage and conservation. The servicemen handed in their uniforms and equipment, and personal weapons. They put on civilian clothes. It seemed as if this month of exercises, the trip to the training ground, and the live missile launches had not happened. However, the days spent together cannot be erased from life.

Following the training, all reservists were promoted in rank, and many received letters of appreciation. Military commissariat staff contacted the management of the enterprises where the reservists are employed and arranged for additional bonuses for their exemplary service.
