The event, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Serikov, Honoured Figure of Culture of Belarus, will be held for the eighth time (biennially) at the regional philharmonic hall. Forty creative ensembles holding the titles of Honoured, People's or Exemplary, with a total number of over 800 participants, will take part.
Dancers will perform in nominations for the best rendition of Ivan Serikov's original dances, a new choreographic production, and the best folk dance, reflecting national themes and motifs.
"Some of the contestants will compete in several nominations simultaneously, which is permitted by the rules. The jury members will have to evaluate 70 performances," the centre noted.
Ivan Artemovich Serikov was an Honoured Figure of Culture of Belarus and a choreographer. In different years, he was a soloist of the ensemble of Belarusian folk song and dance of the Belarusian State Philharmonic. From 1961, he led the Vitebsk People's Ensemble of Song and Dance "Maladosts". He collected a vast number of dances from the Vitebsk region, which have been used in the repertoire of creative ensembles of the region for several decades.
