According to the Road Traffic Regulations of Belarus, during the period from December 1 to March 1, vehicles participating in road traffic must be equipped with winter tires.

This requirement applies to vehicles with a technically permissible maximum mass of up to 3.5 tonnes, passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with a mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes, as well as buses with a mass of up to 5 tonnes.

Winter tyres must have a tread pattern depth of at least 4 mm, and be marked with a mountain peak symbol with three peaks and a snowflake inside, or with the markings "M+S", "M&S", "M.S", "M S", or "All seasons".

The State Automobile Inspectorate recommends that drivers do not wait until December 1st and prepare their vehicles for operation in winter weather conditions in advance.

Failure to use winter tyres on a vehicle may result in a warning or administrative liability in the form of a fine of up to 0.5 base units.

If winter tyres are fitted to a vehicle, but the residual tread pattern depth is less than 4 mm, a warning or a fine of up to 1 base unit is applicable. A repeated violation of this kind within a year will incur a fine of 2 to 5 base units.

For allowing a vehicle with faulty wheels and tyres to participate in road traffic, the person responsible for its technical condition or operation will be held administratively liable with a fine ranging from 4 to 6 base units.
