Deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, as part of the CIS observer mission, will participate in observing the elections of deputies to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on September 11, the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly informed BELTA.
The delegation will include six deputies representing both chambers of the Russian parliament, and staff members of the Parliamentary Assembly secretariat. The delegation of union parliamentarians will be headed by Leonid Slutsky, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on Information Policy, and Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.
The deputies will visit polling stations in Minsk and all regions of Belarus, and will hold a series of meetings with the leadership of the Central Commission of Belarus for Elections and Referendums, regional election commissions, with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus Alexander Surikov, as well as with representatives of regional legislative and executive authorities.
On September 12, representatives of the CIS observer mission will hold a press conference on the results of monitoring the preparation and conduct of the elections.
After the official election results to the National Assembly are announced, some Belarusian deputies will be delegated to the Parliamentary Assembly. In accordance with the agreement on the creation of the Union State, Russia and Belarus are represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by 36 deputies each from the parliaments of the participating states.
