The implementation of the Union State integration programmes was the subject of a meeting chaired by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on January 12, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The purpose of the meeting, according to Alexander Lukashenko, was to discuss the progress of the 28 sectoral programmes adopted just over a year ago at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. "That is, this is our programme of action – Belarus and Russia – for the upcoming period," the head of state clarified. "We agreed then that their implementation would allow us to make significant progress towards ensuring equal rights for citizens and economic entities of the two countries. This is the foundation on which we are building relations with fraternal Russia – equal conditions for people and enterprises. That is precisely why we have opted for comprehensive solutions to many issues of cooperation with the Russian Federation," the head of state explained.
According to him, this primarily concerns integration in the economic sphere and the creation of conditions for cooperation between enterprises of both countries.
The programmes and departmental plans contain about a thousand measures for their implementation, with specific deadlines and responsible persons set, the President recalled. "About 70% of such measures have already been completed. However, some of the measures that are important for us (measures. – BELTA’s note) are lagging behind the agreed schedules," the Belarusian leader pointed out. "As I am being informed, our Russian partners are moving slowly on a number of issues. But I always say: it's never just one person's fault. We are also not doing enough in some areas."
Belarus and Russia have agreed to implement 28 Union programmes, which collectively contain about a thousand measures. They are almost 68% complete (671 out of 989 measures). As of the beginning of 2023, seven programmes have been fully implemented, concerning issues of goods traceability, transport, currency, veterinary and phytosanitary quarantine control, the financial sector, accounting, and the development of nuclear energy. Work continues on the implementation of 21 Union programmes, including in the fields of agriculture, transport, industry, and energy.
