In the Vitebsk region, 12 out of 14 elected deputies are new to the House of Representatives, and the number of women among the parliamentarians has also increased, Dmitry Khoma, Chairman of the Regional Electoral Commission, informed a BELTA correspondent.
Elections in the Vitebsk region were held in all 14 constituencies. According to updated information, voter turnout was 82.29%, with 703,420 people casting their votes. The peak of voting occurred between 12:00 and 14:00. The rural population of the region was more active.
"Of the 14 elected deputies, only two individuals were members of the previous parliament. The composition of parliamentarians from the Vitebsk region has been fundamentally renewed. Furthermore, five women have been elected to the seventh convocation (compared to three previously)," noted Dmitry Khoma. Among the features of the current election campaign in the Vitebsk region was a high competition for a deputy seat, averaging about 5 candidates per seat.
As of 12:00 on November 18, one appeal from citizens had been submitted to the regional commission.
In the Vitebsk region, residents could vote at 768 polling stations, including 25 established in sanatoria, health resorts, rest homes, hospitals, and other healthcare organisations providing inpatient medical care, and one in a military unit. The parliamentary elections were monitored by representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR, the CIS mission, and national observers.-0-
