A sports and arts festival dedicated to World Snow Day will take place on January 14th at Victory Square in Vitebsk, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Vadim Arzhanovich, Director of the Vitebsk Regional Educational and Methodological Centre for Physical Education of the Population.
"This event is for students and schoolchildren, teams from enterprises and organisations, including not only from Vitebsk but also from Vitebsk, Senno and Gorodok districts, as well as for all citizens who wish to attend. The programme is quite extensive – it includes various competitions, a sports and games programme, and a concert. For the first time this year, we will hold ice hockey with a ball competitions among students in grades 8-10, following simplified rules," noted Vadim Arzhanovich.
The competitive part of the programme also includes darts, tug-of-war, arm wrestling, kettlebell lifting, snow football, and a winter sports relay. The BRSM (Belarusian Republican Youth Union) is also preparing its sports and games area. Horse riding, a folk art concert, and a field kitchen will also be organised. "If we are lucky with the weather and there is plenty of snow, we will try to hold a snow sculpture contest and build slides," added the source.
