To prevent incidents where parties involved leave the scene of a road traffic accident, a Unified Road Safety Day will be held across the republic on February 25th: "Do Not Remain Indifferent!".
The rules oblige a driver involved in a road traffic accident to immediately stop and remain at the scene of the incident, turn on the hazard warning lights, and set up the hazard warning triangle, take measures to provide pre-medical aid to the victim and call an ambulance, or if not possible, transport the victim to the hospital. Record the contact details of witnesses to the accident, report the incident to the internal affairs bodies, and await the arrival of traffic police officers. Under no circumstances should alcoholic, low-alcohol beverages, or beer be consumed before undergoing the established check (examination). By acting in this manner, the driver will not only do everything possible to save the life of the injured party but also protect themselves from the consequences of leaving the scene of the accident.
Conscientious citizens provide significant assistance in solving crimes and locating drivers who have fled. Their responsiveness and concern for the misfortune of others help to establish the real picture of the road traffic accident and subsequently identify those responsible. This is precisely why the State Automobile Inspectorate urges everyone not to remain indifferent and uninvolved, and calls for further cooperation.

In accordance with Part 2 of Article 18.16 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, leaving the scene of a road traffic accident by a driver involved therein, in cases where it is prohibited by legislative acts, – entails a fine ranging from five to twenty-five base units or deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities for up to two years.
