Since last year, breast prostheses with bras have been included in the list of technical rehabilitation aids for which social benefits can be obtained. Alongside orthopedic footwear, insulin syringes, and test strips for diabetes mellitus, breast prostheses were the most in-demand items in 2012. Six individuals acquired them using the allocated funds. This year, eye prostheses have been the most frequently requested for payment – five individuals. Thus, in the first half of the year, test strips, eye prostheses, needles, and insulin syringes for Lepel residents were paid for to the tune of over 12 million. Incidentally, this benefit is not dependent on the average per capita income of the family. It is provided to individuals with Group III disabilities and children under 18 years of age who are not recognised as disabled but require such aids for medical reasons.

The reimbursement of expenses for the purchase of diapers, a type of social assistance introduced in April last year, has also become highly sought after. Children with a 4th degree of health loss and individuals with Group I disabilities can count on this assistance. It is issued based on an individual rehabilitation programme for disabled persons or the conclusion of a medical advisory commission. While 66 citizens received this benefit last year, it was provided to 56 in the current first half of the year.
