The improvement of the work and development of the State Security Committee of Belarus were discussed with the Head of State, Alexander Lukashenko, a BELTA correspondent reports.
The President received the Head of the Presidential Administration, the State Secretary of the Security Council, and the Chairman of the KGB with a report on this issue.
"It is time for us to take a serious look at our main special service – the KGB. It is clear that the situation in the world has become more complicated, and special services are gaining more importance for the activities of any state year by year. Our people have also seen the role and place of the KGB in the structure of the security forces and the security of our state. The committee has become more active recently. And we have noticed that we need not some minor changes to the State Security Committee, but in addition to the traditional measures they carry out, the traditional functions and tasks they solve, we need to add some other functions in line with the times. Perhaps strengthen the existing ones. I mean intelligence, counter-intelligence, protection of the constitutional order, and so on, counter-terrorism activities. This is the bread and butter of special services of this kind in any country. Naturally, the activities in some areas need to be strengthened. Somewhere, perhaps, new ones should be created as well. Especially due to the information security that must exist in the country, and the hybrid war that is being waged not only against Belarus. It already exists all over the world. This is the topic of our conversation today in order to make a final decision," the President said.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that recently, especially after the presidential elections, much has been done to reform and improve the activities of all security structures in Belarus.
"As for the Ministry of Defence, we have probably approached the improvement of our army's activities several times. This is natural. Depending on how events unfold, what future warfare is like, if, God forbid, it happens, and so on. In general, there are many reasons. And we have probably significantly improved the structure and activities of our army about five times," the Head of State gave an example.
Similarly, a decision was recently made regarding the Ministry of Emergency Situations. "I think this decision is serious and for a long time. If necessary, we will return to this again," the President said.
