This opinion was expressed to journalists by the Chairman of the Supreme Economic Court of Belarus, Viktor Kamennkov, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent. The Chairman of the SEC recalled that at the end of January this year, the Law of Belarus "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Codes of the Republic of Belarus on Improving Economic Legal Proceedings" came into force. During this period, the total number of applications submitted to economic courts decreased by more than 20 thousand. This indicates that the pre-trial dispute resolution procedure has become effective. While the number of lawsuits decreased by approximately 30 thousand during this period, the number of cases under the simplified order production procedure increased by approximately 40 thousand, and despite an overall reduction in conciliation procedures, their effectiveness has increased, he added. "This primarily indicates that the legislative changes adopted at the suggestion of the SEC are yielding results and we are moving in the right direction," Viktor Kamennkov is confident. Economic entities are increasingly reaching agreements among themselves and only in extreme cases resort to economic courts for dispute resolution under a simplified procedure, whereas previously such issues were resolved exclusively through litigation. Both enterprises, the economy as a whole, and the judicial system have benefited from this, as the average monthly workload per judge across the country has decreased from 100 or more cases to 82 cases. The SEC's proposals on arbitration and mediation are now on the agenda. However, specialists do not predict a significant decrease in the number of cases, as the need for legal protection in courts is constantly increasing today.
