To attract maximum attention to the problem of fires and deaths caused by careless handling of fire while smoking, as part of the republican campaign "Don't Burn Your Life!", employees of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, together with activists of the district branch of the Belarusian Youth Public Association of Rescuers and Firefighters, conducted preventive measures in the district.
Participants of the campaign included passengers of public transport in the city of Lepel, employees of the work collectives of OJSC "Lepel Repair and Mechanical Plant", the branch of the Lepel Bakery, Volosovichsky and Zaozersky forestry, and the healthcare institution "Lepel Central District Hospital". Students of the Lepel State Agrarian-Technical College also took part in the campaign.
During the events, rescuers reminded the campaign participants of the basic fire safety rules. The discussion covered the proper operation of gas installations, electrical equipment, and stoves. They recommended equipping their homes with autonomous fire alarms. The problem of careless handling of fire by citizens, including while smoking, was also addressed. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminded participants of the potential consequences of the "cigarette + alcohol" combination, explained how to prevent fire hazardous situations while smoking, emphasizing that as many as 6 people have already died in the district due to neglecting elementary safety rules while smoking.
Also, during the event, all interested individuals had the opportunity to leave an autograph on a cigarette with a quote about the harm of smoking and recommendations for smokers, participate in the online quiz "Facts about Smoking", and in the "Exchange a Cigarette for a Candy" contest. There were few people willing to give up smoking, but those who did admitted that candy is much healthier than a cigarette.
The slogan "Don't Burn Your Life!" was supported by many citizens. Residents of Lepel received a lot of useful information, and smokers were given another reason to think: is it worth endangering their lives, or should they give up the bad habit once and for all?
