Special passenger cars for social services were handed over today to territorial centres for social services of the population (TSSON) and boarding schools in Vitebsk, Minsk and Grodno regions.
This project is being implemented at OJSC "Brestmash" with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. "We have 146 territorial centres for social services of the population and 91 boarding schools. One of the main tasks is to ensure maximum accessibility of social services. The project allows for the accessibility of services both for city residents and in the most remote settlements. Each TSSON has day care departments for people with disabilities. There are also 158 departments for elderly citizens. In boarding schools, people are not confined within four walls. They attend various events, including showcasing their talents," emphasised Nikolai Orel, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Social Services and Social Assistance of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

To ensure the mobility of people with disabilities and elderly citizens, the Ministry of Labour decided to centrally procure special transport. 39 such passenger cars were manufactured by "Brestmash" according to the order. Of these, 23 are intended for territorial centres for social services and 16 for boarding schools. They will be delivered to all regions of the republic. In particular, today representatives of social institutions in Vitebsk, Grodno and Minsk regions received the keys to 18 special vehicles.

"For the Vitebsk region, we received seven cars - for four TSSONs and three boarding schools. We are grateful to the ministry that this issue has been resolved at the republic level. The most important thing is that the quality of life for people with disabilities and elderly citizens will improve, as well as the accessibility of various services provided by our institutions," stressed Vera Astapenko, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Belarus plans to continue this program. Next year, it is planned to purchase a batch of minibuses with lifts. The Brest enterprise is also working on their production. This vehicle is based on a MAZ minibus.
