The open Belarusian swimming championship, featuring top athletes from Belarus and Russia, concluded in Brest last Saturday. Athletes from the Vitebsk region secured 9 medals.
Our compatriots won two gold medals in the 200-meter butterfly event. Among women in this discipline, Elizaveta Akasheva emerged victorious (as previously reported). Among men, multiple Belarusian record holder Ivan Shamshurin (pictured) won, clocking a time of 2.00.69.
– Naturally, I am pleased with first place, but I am not entirely satisfied with the result, – the Vitebsk native commented on his performance for "Vitebskiye Vesti". – I hope to swim faster at the upcoming major competitions. This will be the Russian championship, which will take place in Kazan from April 14 to 19.
