Interest in works by Belarusian authors is growing, Gennady Silinsky, First Deputy General Director of Belkniga OJSC, told a BELTA correspondent.
"Books are in demand. Our stores feature new releases from state publishers, works by contemporary writers and classics. Books for children in both Belarusian and Russian are selling well," noted Gennady Silinsky.
Overall in 2016, about 67% of the books sold in the enterprise's network were published in Belarus. In 2015, this figure was 66%. The number of Belarusian language publications sold also increased, although their overall share in total sales is small. Textbooks and methodological literature are in highest demand.
The enterprise periodically compiles publication rankings. According to the latest analysis, the most popular titles included "Golden Rules of Folk Culture," "This is Belarus, Kid!", and one of Korotkevich's volumes. Meetings with Belarusian writers are regularly held in bookstores.
A presentation of Nikolai Cherginets' works "Operation Blood," "Sons," and "Major Vetrov" took place.
The Belkniga book network includes 103 retail outlets throughout the republic, and an online store is also in operation.
