Orsha Secondary School No. 2 named after Hero of the Soviet Union Boris Khigrin

Secondary School No. 2 in Orsha has been named after Hero of the Soviet Union, participant of the Great Patriotic War, battalion commander of the 462nd Artillery Regiment of the 13th Army of the Western Front, Boris Lvovich Khigrin. A ceremony dedicated to the unveiling of a memorial plaque to a fellow countryman was held in honour of this event.

The event was attended by Vladimir Terentyev, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies.
“Today is a memorable date not only for the school but for the entire Orsha district, for our region. For several days now, we have been celebrating the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the Vitebsk region from the Nazi invaders. Thanks to people like Boris Lvovich Khigrin, we were able to achieve victory in the Great Patriotic War,” said the head of the deputy corps.

Addressing the schoolchildren, Vladimir Terentyev emphasised that young people should know their fellow countrymen, be proud of them, and strive to be like them.
“Naming the school after a hero and unveiling a plaque is undoubtedly an important event not only for the older generation who were raised on Soviet traditions but also for the youth who will take an example from the dozens and hundreds of well-known and unknown heroes of the Great Patriotic War.”
Vladimir Terentyev noted that the work of naming educational institutions after heroes has been carried out over the past four years.
“More than 100 schools in the Vitebsk region now bear the names of heroes, and this work will continue,” stated the head of the deputy corps. “As dozens of examples across our region show, this helps to strengthen ties between regions, primarily the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, and other republics of the former Soviet Union.”

It is significant that the pioneer squad at Secondary School No. 2 has been named after Boris Lvovich Khigrin. The educational institution has established contact with the hero’s sons in Moscow, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and relatives living in different countries. A museum room has been opened within the school, where materials about the life and feat of Boris Khigrin are carefully preserved.
