WINNERS OF THE DISTRICT STAGE OF THE LEGAL KNOWLEDGE FESTIVAL ANNOUNCED

It is best to start learning the important rules by which our society lives from school, as it is often due to legal illiteracy that adolescents become both offenders and victims of crimes. "Ignorance of the law does not exempt from responsibility" - everyone knows this phrase, but, unfortunately, not everyone is guided by it in practice. However, many illegal actions could be avoided by stopping in time. In the Lepel district, the annual festival of legal knowledge has become a tradition, which motivates schoolchildren to study the legal norms of the Republic of Belarus more deeply. Students who have had "disputes" with the law also take an active part in it. The festival program included two competitive events: a district legal knowledge olympiad and a propaganda team competition for promoting legal knowledge.
The tasks of the legal olympiad required answering questions, including those on the state structure, the age of responsibility for offences, and others. The experts at the event this time included Karina Grishkevich, Senior Assistant Prosecutor of Lepel District; Anatoly Burmistrov, Head of the Juvenile Affairs Inspectorate of the Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs; and representatives of the education department of the district executive committee and other services. The participants had to demonstrate their skills as orators, actors, connoisseurs of the country's history, and also showcase their legal knowledge. Throughout the event, a healthy spirit of competition and enthusiasm reigned on stage. The contestants demonstrated their knowledge in legal areas such as the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the Rights of the Child", the Education Code of the Republic of Belarus, criminal and administrative liability in the Republic of Belarus, and the Children's Legal Website. During their performances, the participants explained concepts such as misdemeanour, crime, and offence, and also attempted to analyse the causes of juvenile delinquency. They also discussed the penalties applied to minors for committed offences. By solving legal problems, they established the role of a teenager in society and the extent of their responsibility before the law. It is gratifying that the young men and women showed good knowledge of the articles of law concerning children and adolescents and the ability to apply them, and also concluded that rules in life are necessary and important, and must be followed. Such events contribute to the formation of a civic stance among schoolchildren and help them better understand the principles of a state governed by the rule of law. In addition, the legal olympiad tests how well the participants can present and apply their knowledge and skills. After a brief deliberation, the jury members announced the results. Following a fierce competition, the jury decided the places as follows. In the junior category, the winners were students from the Starolyadnya Basic School named after F.P. Zanko of Lepel District; the team from Domzheritsy Basic School of Lepel District took 2nd place.Among children of middle school age, the team from Borovoye Secondary School named after G.K. Zhukov took first place, the team from Zaslonovo Secondary School of Lepel District came in 2nd, and Stayskaya Secondary School was 3rd. Among senior school age
The students of Secondary School No. 1 of Lepel took first place, with Starolepel Basic School coming in second. We wish the young people further success and deeper legal knowledge to feel confident in non-standard life situations. The event organizers believe that simply reading documents cannot engage children or help form legal culture and knowledge. This is precisely why such Olympiads are necessary, so that the younger generation in our state is raised in the spirit of respect for the law.
