Among domestic centenarians, women are in the lead: 426 women and 58 men have celebrated their 100th birthday. As in previous years, there are 7 times fewer men in this venerable age category than their female peers.
According to the interviewee, as of April 1 this year, there were seven Belarusians aged 110 and older in the republic. Two of them, residing in Grodno and Minsk regions, were born at the dawn of the last century and are now in the 115 and older age category.
Among the country's regions, Grodno region is traditionally the leader in the number of centenarians: as of April 1 this year, there were 101 people over 100 years old here. Minsk region is in second place in the gerontological rating (79), and Vitebsk region is in third (71). Brest region is home to 66 people who have already celebrated their centenary, Gomel region has 65, the city of Minsk has 55, and Mogilev region has 47.
As of January 1 this year, there were 531 centenarians aged 100 and older in Belarus.
