This was announced to a BELTA correspondent by the Head of the Main Department of Foreign Economic Activity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Aleksey Bogdanov, following the meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission held in Moscow the day before, with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, Leonid Zayats, Member of the Collegium (Minister) for Trade of the EEC, Andrey Slepnev, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia, Andrey Volkov.

Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to approve an increase in quotas for the import of pork by the Republic of Belarus from 20 thousand tons to 40 thousand tons, and poultry meat from 10 thousand tons to 20 thousand tons by the end of 2014, said Aleksey Bogdanov.

During the discussion, representatives of Russian meat unions expressed concern that additional volumes of imported meat would enter the territory of the Russian Federation. The Belarusian side convincingly substantiated its position, proving that these volumes of imported raw materials are needed exclusively for the domestic market.
