20 March, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. A snow-clearing subbotnik (volunteer work day) has been announced in Vitebsk for March 23, Vladimir Shloma, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee and Head of the City Staff for the Preparation and Conduct of the "For a Clean City!" Subbotnik, told a BELTA correspondent.

The cyclone "Haver" brought almost a month's worth of precipitation to Vitebsk. In fact, 22 mm of precipitation fell in the regional centre on March 15-16. The snow cover depth increased from 28 cm to 42 cm. Currently, the city's utility services are taking enhanced measures to clear roadways, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, bus stops, and roofs from the consequences of heavy snowfall. Equipment from both utility services and other city enterprises is involved.

However, the city executive committee believes that it is only possible to promptly deal with the consequences of snowfall with the support of the population and calls on citizens to participate in the subbotnik on March 23 and clear snow from the adjacent territories of industrial enterprises and house-adjacent areas. Housing and maintenance units promise to provide shovels and scrapers to all volunteers.

The traffic police department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the city's utility services ask motorists to limit parking along the roads. And if such a need arises, to leave a contact phone number under the car's windscreen to allow for the immediate clearing of the roadway without the involvement of tow trucks.-0-
