Veterans and disabled individuals of the Great Patriotic War, as well as those affected by it, residing in the Vitebsk region are planned to receive approximately Br2.2 million by Victory Day. This was announced to journalists by Boris Efremov, Chairman of the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

"The total amount of payments in the Vitebsk region this year will be Br2.2 million," said Boris Efremov. According to him, compared to 2023, the amount of material assistance has been increased for all recipients.

As of March 1, a total of 140 veterans of the Great Patriotic War and 1,766 individuals affected by its consequences reside in the region. Efforts are made to surround each of these individuals with care and attention, including from the social service. Educational institutions, enterprises, and organisations have been assigned to provide patronage assistance to veterans.

Social service specialists have primarily surveyed the living conditions of these citizens during the winter period and have taken into account the wishes expressed by 23 individuals. Their issues have now been resolved. "If a veteran lives in the city, they may have certain problems; if they live in a rural area, seasonal work is approaching. Some assistance may be needed with tidying up private yards, and agricultural work will soon commence. Therefore, as in previous years, each of these individuals is under the supervision of the social service and a social worker. It should be noted that all 140 veterans of the Great Patriotic War are served by the social service and are exempt from paying for these services by decision of the local authorities," noted Boris Efremov.

The work to identify problematic issues and provide assistance to war veterans and those affected by its consequences is ongoing, he emphasised. Partners – veteran organisations, the Union of Women, and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union – assist the social service in this regard. "If we cannot resolve a particular problem within the framework of current legislation, these movements come to our aid," explained the Chairman of the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Additionally, in conjunction with representatives of relevant organisations, employees of the committee's departments visit veterans and those affected by the war not only on the eve of May 9 and July 3 but also on other significant dates and holidays.

"We are making our contribution," said Boris Efremov. "Even just to communicate, talk, and listen – veterans understand that they are needed and that they have not been forgotten. The entire range of measures and opportunities is what we can offer them today."
