This was stated today to journalists by the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, Sergey Borysiuk, BELTA correspondent reports. "Work on changing the existing customs duty rates is not being carried out," said Sergey Borysiuk, answering journalists' questions regarding the possible retention for low-income segments of the population of customs duty rates for the import of passenger cars that were in effect before July 1, 2011. However, according to him, there is an opportunity to protect low-income segments of the population by refunding them the amounts of customs duties and taxes paid, including for imported cars. "The state always reserves the right to regulate legal relations, including issues related to the taxation of goods imported by low-income segments of the population with customs duties and taxes," stated the Deputy Chairman of the SCC. There is a procedure according to which, after payment of customs duties and taxes, categories of persons who can be classified as low-income, as well as large families and disabled persons, may have the paid customs duty refunded by decision of the Head of State. Paid customs duties on both passenger cars and other goods may be refunded. At the same time, as emphasized by Sergey Borysiuk, there is no probability that the previous duty rates will be left for anyone. -0-
