30 May, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. In the Vitebsk region, 132 officials from road and utility organizations have been brought to administrative responsibility as a result of a prosecutor's inspection due to the unsatisfactory condition of roads. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Natalia Kolpakova, prosecutor of the Department for Supervision of Legislation Enforcement and Legality of Legal Acts. An inspection of the sufficiency of work carried out by traffic police bodies, local authorities, and road services in the sphere of ensuring road traffic safety and proper maintenance of roads revealed a number of shortcomings. The total length of republican roads serviced by RUP "Vitebskavtodor" requiring capital and current repairs is 1280 km. 78% of local roads serviced by KUP "Vitebskobldorstroy" do not fully comply with regulatory requirements. The latter is due to the fact that the financing of the road sector significantly lags behind the growth of the local road network and transportation volumes, which are dominated by heavy vehicle transport with axle loads exceeding the norm. The work on eliminating potholes and critical damage to road surfaces and streets in settlements, including in Vitebsk, Polotsk, Novopolotsk, and Orsha, is insufficiently organized. For example, in the regional center, in April, UP "Gordormost" carried out pothole repairs on an area of 620 sq.m. "At the same time, according to information from UP "Gordormost" as of early May, pothole repairs of the carriageway are needed in the city on at least 35 thousand sq.m," stated Natalia Kolpakova. In total, based on the results of the inspections, city and district prosecutors have submitted 12 representations, 3 orders, and 3 instructions on preparing a case for administrative offense provided for by Article 18.38 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Belarus have been sent. -0-
